Smart phones like the iPhone or Blackberry can run programs and connect to the Internet in addition to their more mundane uses. These devices are increasingly being used as venues for healthcare information technology. According to Spyglass Consulting Group, their recent study of more than 100 physicians nationwide in acute care and ambulatory environments showed 94 percent of physicians interviewed were using smart phones to communicate, manage personal and business workflows, and access information including medical reference materials. Of these users, 44 percent used Apple iPhones while 25 percent used RIM Blackberries (July 2010).
